Shady Lane Acres is a small family, five acre farm. The corporation was created to educate the communities youth about the daily operations on a farm. A place surrounded by nature where children will promote creativity, self-awareness, and motor skills through our hands-on agricultural programs. In our shaded, outdoor learning area children can explore, and participate in a hands on learning experiences. Our classes will consist of gardening skills, farm animal care, and wilderness awareness.
Children will gain an understanding in STEM education while engaging in hands-on soil, water, and composting lessons. As we dive into gardening lessons, we will start worm farms to educate children about the break down of food waste to make natural fertilizer for our gardens. While children on our farm enjoy the process of growing a garden they will learn the importance of growing and harvesting nutrient packed foods.
As children at Shady Lane Acres farm immerse themselves into the hands on animal care programs they will learn the daily responsibilities and tasks of caring for several types of farm animals. Nature education will take place on our wildlife invited nature trails. We believe that it is important for our youth to understand how species interact within their ecosystems. Lessons will consist of wildlife safety skills, as well as, visual identification of mammals and reptiles in the wild. After reviewing lessons and pictures they will have the opportunity to go on an educational adventure through our nature trails to fully embrace what they learned through instruction. Throughout their walk they will learn to track wild animals, by looking for foot prints, droppings and other identifiers. Children can identify snakes and frogs as they slither and hop through the forest. Our nature trails are a place where wild flowers grow for the butterflies and birds giving children the opportunity to put a picture in a book and real life image together to formulate a full understanding of how this looks in nature.
